Modella Capital is reportedly in advanced talks for a deal to acquire Wynsors World of Shoes, according to Sky News.
A deal could be reached before the end of the year for the retailer which trades from approximately 50 standalone shops across the north of the country. The chain also trades from about 40 concession sites, and employs roughly 440 people.
Wynsors has been on the lookout for a deal for two months and has hired RSM to assess its potential options.
The retailer has a particular focus on children’s footwear and is believed to have seen its recent performance hampered by the measures introduced at the budget last year.
Should Modella complete the deal it would add Wynsons to its slate of deals completed this year which includes TG Jones, the new name for WH Smith’s high street chain; Hobbycraft; and The Original Factory Shop.
Modella also acquired 156 Claire’s stores in the UK and Ireland after the accessories chain entered administration in August. As part of the transaction, Modella has also secured a licence from US-based Ames Watson – which owns Claire’s intellectual property – to operate the brand in the UK and Ireland.
Modella was also one of the bidders for Poundland, which was ultimately sold to Gordon Brothers for £1.
Retail Sector has approached Modella Capital for comment.
