Wilko launches tool and equipment rental service

On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

Wilko has announced the launch of its new tool and equipment hire service, Wilkohire, which aims to make handling jobs ranging from quick fixes to big renovations “easy and affordable”.

The service, which is operated in partnership with easyToolhire, is live as of this week and will give customers the ability to hire everything they need for gardening and landscaping, cleaning, painting and decorating, drilling and breaking, sawing and cutting, and even mowing.

Wilko’s new service has been made available on wilkotoolhire.com, where customers can select the tools they require and the dates they need them for. The tools or equipment selected are then delivered to the home or site for use and collected once the job’s done.

The site is home to wilko-brand and big-brand products, and has over 100,000 items “that simply help” on sale.

Wilkohire is Wilko’s first specialist equipment hire offering and is the latest development since it relaunched in autumn 2023.
