The Co-op has announced the opening of its newest 2,700 sq ft store in Welling on Wrotham Road, creating 18 jobs locally.

Meanwhile, online home delivery of groceries have been made available at the store through Deliveroo and UberEats. This sits alongside an in-store bakery; healthy products; meal ideas; everyday essentials; food-to-go; chilled beers and wines; ready meals; pizzas; Fairtrade products and, free-from, vegan and plant-based products.

The new Co-op store will also benefit from a Costa Coffee Express machine to be installed soon after launch.

Shoppers can also cut their e-waste and unlock value in old and unwanted phones and electronic devices through Co-op’s trial with tech-recirculation company Spring.co.uk.

In addition, a soft plastic recycle unit is also available in store to enable the community to recycle ‘soft plastics’ including: crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals and yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches.

Michael McDaniels, manager at Co-op Welling, said: “We have had a great response. The whole team is delighted to have had the opportunity to launch Co-op’s newest store.

“Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life, and we’ve worked to develop the range, choice and added services to create a really compelling offer, conveniently. This includes a focus on delivering member-value so that the people who own our business, Co-op’s member-owners, benefit every time they shop.”
