Cotswold Outdoor owner to boost in-store efficiency

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

O&CC, the owner of brands Cotswold Outdoor, Snow and Rock and Runners Need, plans to complete a full chain rollout of the cloud-based platform Pricer Plaza as a way to boost in-store efficiency and its customer experience

The rollout follows news that the clothing and activewear retailer deployed Electronic Shelf Labels (ESLs) from Pricer, the first within the UK to do so.

The installation of this digital solution for in-store automation and communication will be installed in all 78 of O&CC’s stores by the end of May 2024.

O&CC first piloted the installation of the cloud platform and ESLs in its new Cotswold Outdoor store in Milton Keynes. An additional five stores underwent the installation during autumn 2023.

In addition to real-time price adjustment capabilities across its portfolio of stores, O&CC is looking at the possibilities of using the solution to deliver more efficient picking of online orders for its Click and Collect service.

The retailer also aims to enhance replenishment, ensuring all products are available on the shelves at all times to reduce shelf gaps and ‘out of stock’ intervals.

Chris Jones, strategic operations director at O&CC, said: “Our mission is to inspire and support customers to get outside. As well as offering the best brands and products, we provide exceptional in-store services, like 3D foot scanning, outdoor footwear and pack fitting, running gait analysis and ski boot fitting.

“Installing a digital in-store pricing solution from Pricer will drive efficiency, improve sustainability, and ultimately enable our in-store teams to dedicate more time to serving our customers. We’re delighted to be in partnership with Pricer to help achieve this ambition during 2024 and beyond.”
