N Brown appoints former Hobbs CEO to board

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

N Brown Group has recently confirmed the appointment of Meg Lustman as an independent non-executive director.

Lustman, who is a former Hobbs chief executive, has 35 years of experience in the retail industry. She held senior positions at many of the UK’s leading fashion retailers as well as having spent her career working with executive teams in an advisory capacity.

She currently serves as vice chair of Court and Remuneration committee, as chair at Glasgow Caledonian University and as chair of St Luke’s hospice.

Regarding her appointment, Lustman said: “N Brown has great people who have an obvious pride for what they do. I look forward to supporting the group as it moves forward on its transformation journey.”

Lustman will chair the group’s remuneration committee from July, after Gill Barr will step down following the annual general meeting.

Steve Johnson, CEO of N Brown Group, said: “We are delighted that she is joining us at this important time for the business. We are in the midst of our transformation plan at N Brown, and having led the transformation and growth of some of the UK high street’s best known brands, Meg’s experience will further strengthen the board.”
