Poundland is reportedly set to launch a new price comparison campaign that will see it compete as an alternative to larger supermarkets, The Grocer has reported

According to reports, in-store posters around its stores have shown the group comparing its prices to the likes of Asda, Morrisons and Wilko.

A spokesperson told The Grocer there would “no doubt be more” comparisons against further supermarkets as the campaign is rolled out.

The posters claim a saving of £1.95 over Asda on a tin of Heinz tomato soup, an 80-bag box of PG Tips, a packet of five Cadbury Brunch Bars and a bottle of HP sauce. A second comparison claims a £1.40 saving on branded product prices with Asda, including Red Bull and Doritos.

Meanwhile, comparisons with Wilko claim a £5 saving on a selection of branded cleaning products and a £2.35 saving on branded toiletries.

The latest move comes after Poundland reset stores to lean into its £1 price point and after inflation hit record levels last year.

Last summer, the group confirmed it would cut the price of a thousand general merchandise items in its 800-plus stores, as well as introduce new low-priced household staples online, to help customers amid the cost-of-living crisis.

In store, Poundland’s general merchandise price cuts covered key categories such as gardening, DIY, homewares and kitchenware. Meanwhile, its e-commerce business, Poundshop.com, unveiled its Value Heroes – a range of £1 household staples that “help to beat inflation”.
