Amazon prime raises subscription price amid rising costs

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Amazon has announced that it will increase the cost of its monthly Prime subscriptions from £7.99 to £8.99 from 15 September 2022, due to increased inflation and higher operating costs.

The price of the annual Prime membership will increase from £79 to £95, and this marks the first time Amazon has changed the price of Prime in the UK since 2014.

Earlier this month (14 July), Amazon held its “biggest” Prime Day event in Amazon’s history as Prime members purchased over 300 million items worldwide during Prime Day 2022.

Prime members worldwide purchased over 100,000 items per minute during this year’s event.

During Prime Day, Amazon doubled donations on all eligible purchases in the UK, making this also “one of the biggest days” for UK charities on AmazonSmile.
