Supermarkets warn of price surge if imperial measurements return

The plan to go back to pounds and ounces is thought to coincide with the Queenโ€™s Platinum Jubilee, but some political commentators accused Johnson of using the policy to distract from โ€˜partygateโ€™.

The British Retail Consortium, which represents supermarkets including Sainsburyโ€™s, Asda and Morrisons, has warned the prime minister that returning to imperial measurements could worsen the cost-of-living crisis and further drive up inflation.ย
