Sainsbury’s recalls vegan lasagne due to ‘traces of meat’

Sainsbury’s has issued a product recall after it was discovered that one of its vegan food items contained meat.

In a statement, the supermarket giant said that its store branded ‘Veg Butternut Squash and Lentil Lasagne’ was found to contain milk, pork and beef, despite not being stated on the packaging. 

The vegan lasagna, which is part of Sainsbury’s vegetarian-friendly ‘Love Your Veg’ range, contained non-vegan Sainsbury’s Bolognese Melt. 

Sainsbury’s has cited a “packaging error” as the reason for the mix-up, with the group currently “urgently” investigating the issue with its supplier to “prevent this from happening again”. 

Furthermore, the group said that no other Sainsbury’s products have been affected by this issue and the product has been removed from sale across its stores. 

Saisnbury’s said: “It has been brought to our attention that packs of the above code of Sainsbury’s Love Your Veg Butternut Squash and Lentil Lasagne contain Sainsbury’s Bolognese Melt which contains milk, pork and beef that are not declared on the packaging.  

“As a precautionary measure, we are asking customers who have purchased the above product with a use by date of 17 July only and have an allergy or an intolerance to milk, or who do not eat pork or beef not to eat it and to return it to their nearest Sainsbury’s store, where they will receive a full refund.”
