Amazon has announced that it will create more than 10,000 new permanent jobs in 2021, taking its total UK workforce to more than 55,000 people by the end of year.
The online retailer revealed that it will also invest £10m over the space of three years to train up to 5,000 employees in new skills whilst supporting the government’s investment programme.
The training will be offered through Amazon’s career choice programme, whereby the company pays course fees for its employees. The new permanent jobs will include roles at its corporate offices, web services and operations network.
Corporate roles will be available in offices in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Cambridge across a wide range of fields including fashion, digital marketing, engineering, video production, software development, cloud computing, AI and machine learning.
In operations, the group will open a parcel receive centre and four new fulfilment centres in Hinckley and East Midlands, this summer creating 700 new permanent jobs.
In addition, the company will also open a parcel receive centre in Doncaster and new fulfilment centres in Dartford, Gateshead, and Swindon, creating more than 1,300 permanent jobs later this year.

“Their latest investment will open up a wide range of opportunities for even more workers, helping to develop the skills needed to power tomorrow’s economy.”
