H&M Group appoints new chief technology officer

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

H&M has appointed Alan Boehme as the business’s new chief technology officer as it continues to accelerate its digitalisation work.

Boehme, along with chief product officer Daniel Claesson, will co-lead the new Business Tech organisation that is designed to strengthen the business’s development and innovation, as well as ensure an ‘‘improved and smoother’’ shopping experience for customers.

The chief technology officer position was previously held by Joel Ankarberg, who has now assumed the role of H&M’s head of group strategy and transformation.

Boehme has prior experience in technology and management roles within multinational companies, previously working at both Procter & Gamble and Coca Cola.

He said: ‘‘The fashion industry is facing great changes, new opportunities and experiences for customers and societies because of technology advances at an ever-increasing pace.

‘‘Combining technology advancements, will serve as a driver for H&M Group to become an even more customer-centric company where new growth opportunities are enabled. I’m excited about being part of accelerating H&M Group’s digital transformation

Helena Helmerrson, CEO of H&M Group, said: ‘‘Alan’s long experience from previous technology driven transformations at global consumer-oriented companies will contribute to the entire H&M group as we continue to digitalise and transform our business. We look forward to a strong addition to H&M Group and our new function Business Tech.”
