Aldi to grant employees 10% bonus

Aldi to grant employees 10% bonus

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Aldi has today announced that all store and distribution employees will receive a 10% bonus on their hours worked, effective from 9 March 2020.

The bonus is the retailer’s tribute to its “amazing colleagues” who have “worked tirelessly throughout this extremely busy time”.

The supermarket giant has also announced a new set of dedicated shopping times for Emergency Workers, as well as increased support for small suppliers.

The chain will now open between 9.30am and 10.00am on Sundays exclusively for key workers in the NHS, police and fire service.

Eligible customers will also be able to take priority at checkouts when they open at 10am.

In its latest announcement, Aldi also revealed that it will reduce payment terms so that suppliers with a turnover of less than £1m will now be paid immediately.

In addition to these measures, Aldi has granted financial support to Neighbourly, which distributes surplus food and other donations to charities such as Teenage Cancer Trust and Age UK.

Opening hours across all stores have also been reduced to 8pm from 10pm in order to give employees additional rest and allow the stores to be restocked.
