Tapestry appoints Pinterest chief tech officer to board of directors

His role on Tapestry’s board is intended to support its Amplify growth agenda, specifically regarding digital consumer engagement and the integration of artificial intelligence within the retail sector

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Tapestry has appointed Matt Madrigal, the current chief technology officer of Pinterest, to its board of directors, increasing the total membership to 11 directors.

Madrigal’s appointment is effective immediately and brings the number of independent directors on the Tapestry board to 10.

As the chief technology officer of Pinterest, Madrigal oversees engineering, product design, and platform operations for a visual search service with over 600 million monthly active users.

His role on Tapestry’s board is intended to support its Amplify growth agenda, specifically regarding digital consumer engagement and the integration of artificial intelligence within the retail sector.

According to the group, the move reflects a strategic focus on capturing younger consumer demographics, including Gen Z, through enhanced e-commerce and digital discovery platforms.

Madrigal’s professional background includes senior leadership roles at Google, where he served as vice president and general manager of merchant shopping.

He also held the position of chief technology and product officer at Fanatics and spent eight years at eBay leading growth marketing and advertising technology.

His expertise at the intersection of machine learning and consumer behaviour is expected to assist Tapestry, the parent company of Coach and Kate Spade New York, in scaling its global consumer platforms.

By adding Madrigal’s technical perspective, the board also aims to refine its strategy for building brand loyalty in increasingly digital environments.

Additionally, Madrigal’s experience with large-scale platforms like Williams-Sonoma and Google Shopping provides the board with specific insight into the infrastructure required for high-volume e-commerce.

Madrigal stated: “I am joining Tapestry’s board at a time when AI is transforming how brands connect with consumers. Tapestry’s ability to build brands and operate with discipline at scale sets it apart. I look forward to contributing my experience as the company continues to drive innovation to deepen consumer engagement and deliver growth and shareholder returns.”

Joanne Crevoiserat, chief executive of Tapestry, said: “We welcome Matt to Tapestry’s board. His expertise across technology and customer experience at scale will be instrumental in driving our growth agenda. I look forward to partnering with him as we continue to build connections with consumers and deliver growth.”

Anne Gates, chair of the board, added: “Matt’s technical expertise and track record of scaling consumer platforms will bring perspective to the board as we advance Tapestry’s growth strategy and drive shareholder value. We welcome him to the board.”
