R.M. Williams to open first Scotland store in Edinburgh

On this episode of Talking Shop I am joined by Zipline CEO and co-founder Melissa Wong. We discuss how Melissa’s 10 years’ of frontline experience informed her approach to building a SaaS company, the recurring operational frustrations that most head offices still underestimate, and why she believes technology should be designed with the store associate as the primary user. We also explore current trends in store execution and how retailers can bridge the gap between corporate strategy and the shop floor.

Australian footwear brand R.M. Williams is set to open its first store in Scotland, with a new location due to launch on George Street in Edinburgh in early 2026.

The opening marks the brand’s first Scottish presence and its first UK store launch of 2026. The George Street site is located in Edinburgh city centre, and has been designed by Melbourne-based studio ACRD.

The new store will stock a range of R.M. Williams footwear and accessories. It will also offer in-store services including boot fitting, repairs and restoration, complimentary boot polishing, and personalisation options such as embossing and debossing.

Additionally, the space will include design elements intended to reference the brand’s Australian heritage alongside local influences.

Karl Wederell, general manager for the UK and Europe, said: “In Edinburgh, a city shaped by stone, patience, and pride in work well done, we are delighted to be opening our first store in Scotland on George St in late January.

“This is a place that understands endurance. It respects craft. It values things made to last. We see this new store as a humble celebration of our shared values with this remarkable city. Here, where history rewards resolve, we are ready to stand our work alongside the city of Edinburgh.”
