Music retailer HMV has announced it is set to open a new store in Amsterdam next year, marking its second location in the Netherlands.
The shop will be located on Kalverstraat and follows the launch of hmv’s first Dutch store in The Hague in November. The Amsterdam outlet will span about 4,500 sq ft.
HMV said the store would stock music, film, television and books, alongside pop culture merchandise. It will carry a larger range of vinyl LPs and CDs than the Hague store, including a dedicated section for K-pop, as well as an expanded selection of films and box sets on 4K and Blu-ray.
The Amsterdam site will also offer a wider range of T-shirts, collectables and books, alongside fiction, non-fiction and graphic novels.
Phil Halliday, managing director at HMV and Fopp, said: “We’re constantly striving to create new community hubs for fans to come together and share their love of music and pop culture. The shop will cater to a range of interests, stocking all genres of music from K-Pop to Heavy Metal, the best film and TV shows around, as well as a great selection of fiction, non-fiction and graphic novels.
“We’re confident that we’ll bring something new to Kalverstraat and we can’t wait to open the doors next year.”
hmv was founded in the UK in 1921 as His Master’s Voice and opened its first dedicated store on Oxford Street in London. The business was acquired in 2019 by Doug Putman, owner of Sunrise Records.
The retailer now operates more than 120 stores across the UK, selling vinyl, CDs, film and television formats including DVD, Blu-ray and 4K, as well as books and pop culture merchandise.
