Poundland to close 14 additional stores

Poundland to close 14 additional stores

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Poundland has begun clearance sales at a further 14 stores as part of its closure programme, with discounts of up to 40% applied across remaining stock.

Once these closures are complete, Poundland expects to operate a network of 650 to 700 stores across the UK and Ireland.

The sales – which cover homewares, groceries, clothing and health and beauty – will continue until inventory is sold.

They join other locations already running similar reductions as the retailer progresses a restructuring that began earlier this year.

The latest sites to start clearance sales are in Lancaster, Northampton Sixfields, Weston-super-Mare, Hammersmith, Prestatyn, Faversham, Liverpool, Yeovil, Nottingham Eastpoint, Lymington, Christchurch, Bristol Avon Meads, Winton and Coatbridge.

Their closure dates run from 19 December to 8 February 2026, depending on location.

Poundland ended the main phase of its 68-store closure plan in September, shutting 57 sites by 28 September and pausing 11 further closures.

It said the latest sales were limited to stores where leases are expiring as it continues to focus on better-performing locations.

The affected stores include:

  • Lancaster – clearance from 5 December; closing 19 December 2025
  • Northampton Sixfields – 2 December; 31 December 2025
  • Weston-super-Mare – 3 December; 24 December 2025
  • Hammersmith – 29 November; 24 December 2025
  • Prestatyn – 2 December; 31 December 2025
  • Faversham – 28 November; 6 January 2026
  • Liverpool – 3 December; 15 January 2026
  • Yeovil – 4 December; 16 January 2026
  • Nottingham Eastpoint – 2 December; 22 January 2026
  • Lymington – 25 November; 23 January 2026
  • Christchurch – 6 December; 23 January 2026
  • Bristol Avon Meads – 3 December; 29 January 2026
  • Winton – 27 November; 6 February 2026
  • Coatbridge – 25 November; 8 February 2026

Poundland’s UK country manager Darren MacDonald said: “We know how disappointing it is when we leave a store, but before we close our doors for a final time,  we’re determined to say goodbye by offering even more amazing value to customers. The special reductions, on top of the value we provide in every store, will help us leave locations we’re  leaving with pride.

“And when we close our doors, we look forward to welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of  Poundland stores we’ll continue to operate right across the UK.”
