Marks Electrical appoints Darren Bowkett as new chair

On the final episode of season three we sit down with Claire Watkin, CEO of The Fine Bedding Company, a fourth-generation business founded in 1912. She shares how the brand has performed in recent years and what its proposition really stands for today. We explore balancing heritage with innovation, building sustainability into products and operations, and the journey to a zero-waste eco-factory in Estonia. Claire also unpacks earning consumer trust, making the investment case, and her advice to the next generation of leaders.

Marks Electrical Group has appointed Darren Bowkett as its new chair after it announced that Marnie Millard will step down from the board on 31 December 2025.

Bowkett will take up the role and join the board on 2 January 2026.

He has spent more than 40 years at Ibstock Group, where he is currently strategic projects director at Ibstock Brick.

He has also held several director roles within the group during the past 12 years, including responsibility for overseeing key business units.

Meanwhile, Millard joined Marks Electrical in 2021 at the time of its IPO and has supported the company’s transition from a family-owned business to a publicly listed group.

Marks Electrical also confirmed that Alyson Fadil has left the board, as disclosed in its interim results on 12 November.

Mark Smithson, chief executive, said: “Marnie joined the board in 2021 as part of the IPO and has been an integral part of the team, helping the business to deliver on its strategic plans as we’ve expanded over recent years. Bowkett’s operational experience would support the group’s next phase.”

Millard added: “I have enjoyed working with Mark and the team since the listing on AIM in 2021. After over four years in the role, it is now the right time for me to hand over the role to Darren, who will oversee the next phase of the business’ progress.”
