Matalan has appointed people and talent director Beccy Davies as it strengthens its leadership team ahead of the new year.

Davies joined the business in November and reports to chief people officer Alyson Fadil.

She has held senior HR roles across the retail and technology sectors, including eight years with Estée Lauder Companies, where she oversaw people strategy for 8,000 colleagues across 12 brands.

She later served as head of HR at Exertis UK, the technology distribution group, where she led the people strategy for 1,200 staff and worked with managing directors and the board on organisational development.

Her earlier career included positions at Sofology, DWF and Selfridges across learning, development and people management.

In a LinkedIn post, Fadil said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Beccy Davies, who joined the team this month in the new role of director of people and talent. A huge warm welcome to Beccy.”

In another post, Davies added: “After keeping this under wraps for a little while, I’m really pleased to share that I’ve joined Matalan as director of people and talent. Stepping into the role has been a proud moment in my career, coming back into a large retail business where people genuinely sit at the heart of everything.

“Since joining, I’ve been met with a real sense of warmth and pride across our distribution centres, support hub and stores. It’s clear to see how much passion and commitment runs throughout the business, and how strongly colleagues care about what they do.”

She concluded: “As I settle in, I’m looking forward to listening, learning, and working alongside teams across the UK to help shape what comes next. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has already made me feel so welcome. I’m genuinely excited for what we’ll build together.”
