Asda expands rapid delivery partnership with Uber Direct

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Asda has signed a new multi-year preferred partner agreement with Uber Direct, Uber’s white-label delivery service to increase the number of locations offering rapid delivery.

The extended partnership will increase the availability of Asda’s Express Delivery service powered by Uber Direct’s best-in-class courier network – the same courier network used by Uber Eats.

The service originally enabled orders to be delivered from approximately 300 superstores across the UK, and this was expanded to 10 new superstore locations in H2 2025. The company is now planning to expand the proposition to more locations in 2026.

Barney Burgess, VP of online at Asda, said: “Express Delivery has proven particularly popular with our customers, enabling them to have their everyday essentials delivered within hours of placing an order.

“Uber Direct’s strong performance and reliable service has been vital in helping us to grow the service to date. We are excited to continue growing our partnership with Uber Direct and to keep delivering an exceptional and convenient service to our customers.”

Caroline Varga, regional manager, Uber Direct EMEA, added: “It’s been incredibly exciting to be part of Asda’s growth journey these last few years, and we look forward to building an even closer relationship.

“This deal is a testament not just to the strength and competitive advantage provided by our white-label delivery service, but also a reflection of the success we’ve seen through the wider Uber partnership, across both the Uber Eats and Uber Direct platforms.”

Uber Direct and Asda have partnered together since 2021, when the grocery retailer first launched its on-demand proposition.
