The Perfume Shop launches largest Christmas recruitment drive

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

The Perfume Shop will recruit more than 900 seasonal staff across the UK for Christmas 2025, in what it described as one of its biggest recruitment drives to date.

The retailer said it would take on more Christmas sales assistants than in 2024 to meet increased customer demand. Last year, it received more than 29,000 applications for temporary roles.

Seasonal employees will be paid the real Living Wage, with rates starting at £12.60 an hour, or £13.85 in London, as well as sales commission and staff discount.

The company said workers would also have access to wellbeing support through partnerships with the Retail Trust and financial platform Wagestream.

The Perfume Shop said the roles would suit people entering retail for the first time as well as those with experience. Alongside temporary positions, some team leader and store manager jobs will also be available in selected stores.

Many seasonal employees are retained each year as permanent sales advisors, the retailer added. It has encouraged workers affected by recent store closures elsewhere in the sector to consider applying.

The company also runs apprenticeship schemes, professional fragrance qualifications and in-house training programmes.

Michelle Fellows, people, sustainability and development director, said: “Christmas is one of the most exciting times of year for our stores, and our seasonal perfume people play a huge role in delivering experiences for customers.

“We’re proud to offer fair pay, commission and wellbeing support, as well as a pathway into long-term careers with us.”
