On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Swiss chocolatier Läderach has opened its first shop in a UK transport hub at London St Pancras International.

The 550 sq ft boutique, which began trading on earlier this month, is the brand’s ninth London location and offers its full range of handcrafted chocolate, including its signature FrischSchoggi (fresh chocolate) sold by weight, as well as pralines, truffles, tablet bars and chocolate popcorn.

The opening is part of the company’s UK expansion, which has seen recent outlets open in Canary Wharf, High Street Kensington, and a flagship on Regent Street, alongside concessions in Harrods and Selfridges.

Stephan Stegen, UK general manager of Läderach, said: “This is an incredibly exciting development for Läderach in the UK. St Pancras International is a truly iconic station, serving over 40 million local, national, and international passengers each year.

“Our new chocolaterie is perfectly positioned to offer a moment of pure Swiss indulgence, whether it’s a delightful pick-me-up treat on the go for commuters or a thoughtful, high-quality gifting solution for travellers seeking something truly special.”

Wendy Spinks, chief commercial officer at London St Pancras Highspeed, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Läderach to the iconic London St Pancras International station and are thrilled that they have chosen St Pancras as their first transport hub location.

“Introducing premium Swiss chocolatier, Läderach, builds on the array of delicious offerings already available in the station, adding another excellent option for our domestic and international passengers.”

Läderach, founded in 1962, produces its chocolate in Switzerland using a bean-to-bar process and operates about 200 shops in 25 countries.
