On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Future Stores has announced the appointment of Oliver Murray as its first sales director.

Murray has over 20 years of experience in commercial sales and is hailed as a “retailtainment” champion.

He previously worked as a partnership director at Darabase, an immersive experience specialist, and prior to that he was a client partner sales director at JC Decaux.

In his new role, Murray will be working with selected partner brands on a rotating line-up of brand showcases that change every two to six weeks, first in London and then globally as more stores are rolled out worldwide.

The news follows the opening of Futures Stores’ £20m retail store on London’s Oxford Street in October 2024.

The two-floor immersive space features 400sq m of high-definition Micro LED displays, monumental billboards, and cameras, allowing consumers to connect with brands through live demos, tutorials, and showcases led by influencers and creators.

Murray said: “I am incredibly excited to be joining Future Stores, a brand-new entity with a passionate, talented team and to bring my expertise in out-of-home and immersive technology to creatively meet clients’ needs in this unique, highly engaging environment.”

Engin Celikbas, managing director of Future Stores, added: “With a unique blend of experience from his tenure at JC Decaux and his role at Darabase, Oli bridges the digital and physical worlds, combining media, experiential, and digital expertise. He is a natural fit for Future Stores, and we are thrilled to welcome him as we reveal our next set of partner brands for London and beyond in 2025.”
