Poundstretcher bolsters leadership team with host of senior appointments

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Poundstretcher has announced a series of senior appointments within its commercial and store operations teams to help fuel its growth plans. Miles Foster joins the executive team as group operations director after a 35-year career at Morrisons. In his new role, he will lead over 300 stores and oversee the stores growth plan and report to CEO Andy Atkinson.

Joining Foster’s team is Liz Harris, who also joins from Morrisons. She will now lead the retail operations team at Poundstretcher.

She is joined by Annette Beecham, who has previously been regional manager at Home Bargains and B&M, and Mandy Fitzpatrick, who will run the loss prevention team after holding a similar role at Poundland.

In addition, Tim Dearing, Simon Smith and James MacTavish will join the group as new area managers, bringing a wealth of experience from B&M, One Beyond, Morrisons and Asda.

Poundstretcher is also strengthening its trading team with the appointment of group commercial director, Tony Fearon. Fearon has worked at Boots, Booker and Morrisons, working across FMCG, fresh, and general merchandise buying.

He is joined by Kyle Storey from Poundland as head of trading for FMCG and Connor Black from Morrisons as head of trading for Pet.

CEO Andy Atkinson said: “As we start this long and important journey, I am delighted that such a talented group of leaders have chosen to take the next step in their careers with us.  These people are the best in the industry, and share our values in supporting our colleagues, and putting customers first. These are exciting times ahead for Poundstretcher.”
