Lookfantastic unveils first permanent store in Greater Manchester

On this episode of Talking Shop, we're joined by Dan Cate, CEO and Founder of SoldThrough. Dan is a heavyweight retail executive who has spent decades steering the merchandising and digital operations of America’s most iconic retail institutions, from Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdale’s to Century 21 and Lord & Taylor. Today, through his platform SoldThrough, Dan helps international fashion brands cross the Atlantic and crack the notoriously brutal U.S. retail landscape. We break down his journey from the shop floor to the C-suite, the operational indicators that prove a brand is truly ready for international expansion, and how to navigate a fragmented American market without destroying your margins. We also discuss how to balance localised inventory with central efficiency, and the one non-negotiable metric that tells you a product has found genuine market fit.

THG-owned beauty retailer Lookfantastic has opened its first ever concept store in Greater Manchester.

The new store features over 90 beauty brands, including exclusives such as Dermatologist-founded brand, Dr Loretta, democratised expertise, and access to expert advice from industry insiders and multi-brand specialists, in-store beauty experts, including dedicated skin health professionals, and beauty services with a range of treatments from the world’s first Color Wow salon and Dermalogica.

The store will also host monthly beauty pop-ups, featuring collaborations, new launches, and limited-edition products, alongside The Beauty Bar, a dedicated space for beauty services, events, and social experiences.

It also includes a recycling station that supports Lookfantastic’s commitment to sustainability.

Additionally, ‘The Box’ beauty box service is brought to life in-store, allowing customers to curate their own personalised collections.

The new store has been designed in collaboration with Household agency and instead of traditional product window displays, the store has a Spotlight Stage, located at the front of the store, launching with Color Wow, and alternating monthly.

Lucy Gorman, CEO of THG Beauty, said: “We’re excited to bring the Lookfantastic experience to life with our concept store, offering our loyal community incredible exclusives they won’t be able to find anywhere else. This innovative retail space goes beyond products, offering a unique and immersive beauty destination. It perfectly complements our omnichannel strategy, bridging the gap between our established online community and the success of our pop-up events.

“Community is at the heart of everything we do, and we’re delighted customers will be able to discover and purchase while also enjoying beauty services, bringing digital beauty into the third dimension for our loyal, local customer base in a new way.”
