Yodel to hire 3,000 workers ahead of festive season

In this episode we speak to Matt Dalton, consumer sector leader at Forvis Mazars. Matt discussed the biggest challenges facing the retail sector, from cost pressures and wage increases to polarised property markets and geopolitical shocks, and the ways in which retailers can best navigate these. We also explore how short-term cost-cutting could undermine long-term resilience, and how retailers can best remain agile and adaptable in unforecastable times.

Yodel is set to hire more than 3,000 couriers and warehouse staff as it prepares for the festive season, Sky News has reported.

The parcel carrier was on the brink of collapse earlier this year but is now getting ready to recruit more staff before the peak shopping period starts.

Yodel’s annual recruitment drive has in the past hired as many as 7,000 workers ahead of November’s Black Friday and the Christman season.

The announcement comes after the company secured an £85m funding package from Paypoint and Independent Growth Finance.

According to Sky News, the new roles offer flexible working and the possibility for temporary roles to become permanent in the long term.

Yodel expects the number of parcels to rise by more than half over the next couple of months.

Mike Hancox, Yodel’s chief executive, said: “As we head into the busiest time of year for retailers, we’re expanding our workforce to meet the boom in demand for parcel deliveries as the ecommerce market continues to go from strength to strength.

“We’re committed to supporting our network of couriers and providing a competitive range of benefits.”

Yodel has been contacted for comment.
