Poundland launches rebranded website

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Poundland has today (20 September) relaunched its website, which now includes a range of around 3,000 items for home delivery.

The launch of Poundland.co.uk has been made possible by the digital migration of its Poundshop.com operation and the opening of a second digital fulfilment hub at its distribution centre in Darton, South Yorkshire.

The success of Poundshop.com, which has seen orders more than double under Poundland ownership, meant its operations were running close to full capacity and Poundland needed to establish a second distribution centre before opening up Poundland.co.uk to customer orders.

Orders are now being picked and delivered from both its new South Yorkshire hub and its original facilities in Wednesbury in the West Midlands

The Darton centre was acquired when Poundland bought Fultons Frozen food to power the roll out of chilled and frozen food to hundreds of stores.

In the coming months the retailer plans to develop and expand the products and services on its new website as it makes a significant proportion of its growing in-store ranges available for home delivery.

Tom Hill, Poundland director of digital, said: “This is an important milestone in the development of our digital business. I’d like to thank the teams at Walsall, Wednesbury and Darton for their amazing efforts to open up Poundland.co.uk.

“These are exciting times in Poundland as we give our customers more ways to shop with us and offer them more value, wherever they are in the UK.”
