Holland and Barrett eyes move for Planet Organic

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Health foods chain Holland and Barrett is reportedly weighing up a last minute rescue deal for Planet Organic, according to reports from Sky News.

Reports suggest that Holland and Barrett, which already has a supplier relationship with the company, is one of a number of suitors who are interested in acquiring Planet Organic.

It is thought that Holland and Barrett is more interested in Planet Organic’s brand and its intellectual property rather than its portfolio of 13 stores.

One source told Sky News that Planet Organic had decided to seek an extension on its notice to appoint administrators which gives it till close to the end of the month to strike a deal.

Waitrose, owned by the John Lewis Partnership, pulled out of a deal to acquire Planet Organic in March.

Retail Sector has approached Holland and Barrett for comment.
