Independent retailer Scamp & Dude opens flagship store

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Scamp and Dude, an independent womenswear retailer, has opened its flagship store in Marlow High Street

The 1,569 sq ft store will be an immersive retail space to showcase the brands growing collection of “stylish and responsible womenswear”, and also a space to celebrate the power of community, from ongoing charity campaigns and give back programmes to experiential events for the local community and loyal customers.

Following an intense growth period for Scamp and Dude and a new focus on the womenswear division, which recently launched into Liberty London, womenswear now makes up over 90% of all brand sales.

Founded by Jo Tutchener-Sharp in 2016, Scamp and Dude was created after she was separated from her children during a lengthy stay in hospital undergoing life-saving brain surgery, which made her feel “determined to create a philanthropic business that continuously gives back”.

Originally launching with kids wear and charitable products, Scamp and Dude was led by the slogan ‘a Superhero has my back’, and over the past five years, the retailer has donated over 5,000 Superhero Sleep Buddies and 6,500 Super Scarves to women with cancer and families of a child with cancer.

Tutchener-Sharp said: “I am incredibly proud to be taking this next step in our Scamp & Dude brand journey through the opening of our new flagship store, after our exponential growth in the business over the past five years.

“As our local town, Marlow means so much to us and we are hugely excited to bring our joyful world of Scamp and Dude to the already vibrant local high street and to welcome a community of new and existing customers.”
