The Very Group announces partnership to transform ecommerce platform

Very said the move is one of the first in a series of investments in technology and talent that the group will make in 2022

The Very Group has announced plans to transform the technology behind its ecommerce platform through a new partnership with commercetools, a commerce platform built on MACH principles, in a bid to “significantly” improve customer experience.

The new partnership with commercetools is reportedly a step forward in Very’s strategy to modernise its tech stack towards a microservices-based, API-first, cloud-native, and headless architecture (MACH), which will allow the retailer to deliver customer experience changes more frequently and faster.

Beginning in March 2022, Very will begin migrating each stage of the customer journey from its existing digital commerce platform over to commercetools.

Each migration phase will introduce more of Very’s new in-house headless presentation layer using the retailer’s new design system.

Matt Grest, CIO at The Very Group, said: “This is one of the most exciting technology developments in Very’s history. Delivering a brilliant digital customer experience is more important than ever in today’s competitive retail environment, and commercetools will give us increased scalability and reliability when delivering change.

“Our team will be able to make more simultaneous changes to different parts of our customer journey than ever before. The possibilities that this opens up from both a customer and a business perspective are greater than anything we’ve experienced, and we can’t wait to get started.”

Dirk Hoerig, CEO and co-founder of commercetools, added: “We are proud to provide The Very Group with our headless commerce technology to create a unique digital experience for Very’s customers.

“While shopping expectations continue to change quickly, The Very Group will be able to respond to these fast-changing market demands with commercetools’ flexible and dynamic platform.”
