H&M Group temporarily pauses all sales in Russia

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

H&M Group announced it has decided to temporarily pause all sales in Russia.

According to the brand, its stores in Ukraine have already been temporarily closed due to the safety of customers and colleagues.

H&M Group said it is “deeply” concerned about the “tragic developments” in Ukraine and stands with all the people who are suffering.

The situation is continuously “monitored and evaluated” by the group. Representatives of the company are in dialogue with all relevant stakeholders.

H&M Group cares for all colleagues and joins all those around the world who are calling for peace. Clothes and other necessities have been donated by the company. H&M Foundation has also made donations to Save the Children and to UNHCR.

This announcement follows the news that Asos has also decided to cut ties with Russia and suspend all sales in Ukraine.
