Sainsbury’s welcomed customers to its latest new store of 2021 as it opened the doors to Sainsbury’s Ingram Street Local in Glasgow.
Colin McInnes from local charity Homeless Project Scotland joined colleagues to cut the ribbon and support the arrival of the new convenience store.
Situated in the heart of Glasgow’s Merchant City, the new 1,929 sq. ft store is the third convenience store Sainsbury’s has opened in Scotland this year, where the retailer now has 136 stores and employs over 9,000 colleagues.
Just a stone’s throw from George Square and the city centre, the new store team of 15 colleagues is looking forward to helping and serving local workers, residents and visitors to Glasgow, as well as busy customers doing their shopping in the run up to Christmas.
Through Sainsbury’s wider partnership with Neighbourly, the new store has teamed up with local charity Homeless Project Scotland as its food donation partner, which colleagues will actively support alongside Sainsbury’s national charity initiatives and community programmes.
Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s property director, said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to open another Sainsbury’s Local before Christmas, this time for customers in Glasgow’s busy city centre.
“I’d like to thank our amazing colleagues for all their hard work to get the store ready for opening and I look forward to seeing the team flourish as part of the vibrant community in the Merchant City.”
Steven Steel, Sainsbury’s Glasgow Ingram Street Local store manager, added: “It’s been really exciting to open our doors to the local community today.
“We’re proud to be putting Sainsbury’s fantastic range of products and brilliant customer service on the doorstep of the Merchant City and I can’t wait to hear what customers think of their new store.”
