Eponymous handbag and homeware retailer Orla Kiely has ceased trading as of Monday 17 September 2018.

Its parent company Kiely Rowan has entered into administration and the group’s retail stores in London and Kildare and its online business have now been closed.

However its home and design licensing business will not be impacted and its selection of accessories and homewares will continue to be sold through its distribution partners.

Sources told Ibex News that staff were escorted out of their workplaces “in tears”, and were told they could not be paid for the last three weeks of work.

A statement made on the group’s website read: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Thank you for embracing our brand and designs throughout the years and for your ongoing support.”
