Fortnum and Mason has named Tom Athron as its new CEO, replacing Ewan Venters in the role.
Prior to his appointment, Athron had held the position of chief operating officer at Matchesfashion since May 2018, and previously held a variety of roles at John Lewis Partnership, where he later acted as chief financial officer at Waitrose.
Athron will assume the position of CEO on 1 December.
During his tenure, Venters oversaw the expansion of the London-based business internationally, with the business opening in Hong Kong last year.
Athron said: “I am thrilled to be joining such a special business as Fortnum & Mason, which I have long admired for its innovation, extraordinary food and drink and its exceptional people.
“A traditional British business with a truly global outlook, a strong purpose and increasingly desired around the world.”
He added: “I am greatly looking forward to working with the Fortnum’s team on realising its further potential and contributing to the next exciting phase in its long and illustrious history.”
Fortnum and Mason chair Kate Hobhouse said: “A versatile and highly experienced business leader, Tom has extensive leadership experience in digital and physical retail across food, luxury and designer fashion: he is a great fit with the multichannel business that Fortnum’s has become.”
