Former Easyjet director joins John Lewis Partnership board

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

The John Lewis Partnership has appointed Andy Martin as its new non-executive director and as chair of the group’s audit and risk committee.

He succeeds Sarah Hogg, whose term of office ended on 30 June 2018, and will work alongside Keith Williams, deputy chairman of the board, and board member Laura Wade-Gery.

Martin was previously a non-executive director for Easyjet, chairing its finance committee, and in 2016 went on to become a non-executive director at product testing firm Intertek as well as the chair of its audit committee.

Charlie Mayfield, chairman of John Lewis Partnership, said: “I am incredibly pleased that Andy will be joining the partnership board. Andy’s wealth of business and financial experience will complement the strength of the board and we are looking forward to his input in shaping the continued development of our ‘It’s Your Business’ 2028 strategy.

“I would also like to personally thank Baroness Hogg for the valuable contribution she has made to the partnership over the past seven years.”
