Moonpig appoints new managing director

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

The online cards retailer Moonpig has announced its decision to appoint its new managing director.

Ecommerce entrepreneur Nickyl Raithatha will start from 2 July, replacing former MD James Sturrock, who doubled the size of the online cards retailer after delivering three years of double-digit growth, making Moonpig the UK’s number one online cards company.

Raithatha will also be responsible for Photobox Group’s state-of-the-art new Clerkenwell HQ, who own and run the building where Moonpig is based. He has previously founded and scaled Finery, one of UK’s fastest growing fashion brands, to £15m in under three years. He also worked as CEO of ecommerce at Rocket Internet and has run TMT investments for a $5bn hedge fund.

Moonpig will also appoint three new roles as it evolves its brand and innovates its product and user experience. The new roles include Ronan Tighe as chief product officer, Simon Doggett as the head of experience design and Jo McClintock as brand marketing director.

Raithatha said: “I can’t wait to start building on the momentum of this much-loved brand, bringing special moments to even more customers. The opportunity to take this business to new heights through continued product and technological innovation is huge, and I’m excited to be part of the journey.”

CEO of Photobox Group, Jody Ford, added: “Nickyl is an ideal successor to James. His track record in scaling businesses and passion for data-driven transformation of the customer experience will propel Moonpig forward through the next chapter of its incredible growth story.”
