The Co-op group has announced a new leadership structure following the departure of its group managing director Matt Hood and two other senior leaders.

Nicole Tallant, commercial director for fresh and chilled, and Tom Bradley, commercial director for strategy and supplier relationships, have also stepped away from the company to pursue new roles outside of the food sector. They will remain in their positions over the next few months, while the business navigates a new structure.

Hood has been with the retailer for over 10 years, initially joining as head of commercial in 2012. Prior to that, he previously worked at Tesco, where he served as sourcing director. Tallant and Bradley are also long-standing employees, having worked with the Co-op for eight and five years respectively.

Imran Rasul, chief procurement officer, will assume overall responsibility for the commercial function in Co-op Food in the new role of chief commercial officer. He will work alongside Andy Wilmot, who continues as supply chain and logistics director; both will report to interim group chief executive Kate Allum.

Allum said: “I can confirm Matt Hood, Nicole Tallant and Tom Bradley have decided to leave our Co-op to take up new roles outside of the Food retail sector. I’m pleased that all three will remain with us for some months to ensure a well-managed transition, maintain stability and continue to help deliver our strategy.

“Between them, Matt, Nicole and Tom have made a significant contribution to our Food business and to the wider Co-op, with their commitment, leadership and expertise having a lasting impact, and they will be greatly missed by colleagues across the business. We wish all three of them the very best for the future. “

She added: “I am therefore delighted to announce the appointment of Imran Rasul to the newly created role of chief commercial officer. Imran is currently our chief procurement officer and will now bring his considerable expertise to oversee commercial operations.”
