Alexander McQueen, Kering’s British luxury fashion brand, has appointed former Prada boss Gianfranco D’Attis as its new chief executive officer.
D’Attis will take up the role on June 3 and report directly to Luca de Meo, chief executive of Kering. He will be based in London.
The appointment comes as Alexander McQueen seeks to strengthen its market position through a more focused business model centred on streamlined collections, a rightsized retail network and a leaner organisational structure.
D’Attis brings more than 25 years of experience in the luxury sector to the role. Most recently, he served as chief executive of Prada, where he was credited with strengthening the brand’s appeal and driving growth through a more customer-focused strategy.
Before joining Prada, he held senior leadership positions across Asia, Europe and the Americas with luxury groups LVMH and Richemont.
In his new role, D’Attis will oversee the next stage of Alexander McQueen’s development, with a focus on reinforcing the house’s identity, improving operational execution and enhancing financial performance.
The leadership change follows a period of transformation at Alexander McQueen as the brand adapts to changing conditions in the global luxury market.
Kering said the house is entering a new phase designed to strengthen its distinctive positioning while operating with greater efficiency.
The group also confirmed that outgoing chief executive Gianfilippo Testa will leave Kering later this year. Alexander McQueen is part of Kering’s portfolio of luxury brands, which includes Gucci, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga.
De Meo, CEO of Kering, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Gianfranco to Kering. He brings a powerful combination of strategic vision, operational rigor and deep luxury expertise.
“His ability to sharpen brand identity while driving disciplined execution will be critical as we refocus Alexander McQueen and unlock its full potential. I am confident that, together with the teams, he will lead the House into its next phase of development.”
