Bonners Piano Centres opens flagship Newcastle store

Bonners Piano Centres has opened a new flagship showroom in Newcastle, marking its fourth UK location at a time when the wider musical instrument industry faces significant challenges.

The UK market has been hit hard in 2025, with well-known retailers including Play Music Today, GAK, JG Windows, and Music Matter ceasing trading. In contrast, Bonners has continued to grow by refining a formula that meets the needs of modern piano and keyboard buyers.

Founded in 1976 by Peter and Garry Bonner, the business began as a small independent shop in Eastbourne. Today, it is led by Managing Director Tony White, who first joined on a school work-experience placement at the age of 15. Under his leadership, the company has developed into one of the UK’s most respected piano specialists, with showrooms now located in Sussex, Surrey, Milton Keynes, and Newcastle.

The new Newcastle branch has been designed as a “piano department store”. It brings together an extensive line-up of global brands, including Yamaha, Roland, Kawai, Casio, Nord, Korg, Hammond, and many more. Customers can see, hear, and play a huge range of instruments under one roof, enabling direct side-by-side comparison before making a purchase.

“The way people shop for pianos and keyboards has changed,” says Tony White. “Customers want to research online, but when it comes to making a significant investment, they value the chance to experience instruments in person. Newcastle gives them a genuine reason to leave the sofa, visit a well-stocked store, and compare the best the industry has to offer – all in one place.”
