Louis Vuitton has confirmed that data belonging to UK shoppers was stolen in a cyber attack on its systems earlier this month.
The luxury fashion brand said an unauthorised third party accessed its UK operations on 2 July, taking names, purchase history and contact details of customers.
However, the company stressed that no financial data, such as bank details, had been compromised.
In an email to customers, Louis Vuitton wrote: “While we have no evidence that your data has been misused to date, phishing attempts, fraud attempts, or unauthorised use of your information may occur.”
Louis Vuitton reported the incident to the Information Commissioner’s Office and other relevant authorities.
The breach marks the third time in three months that parent company LVMH’s systems have been targeted. Last week, its Korean operations suffered a similar cyber attack.
The incident comes amid a wider spate of attacks on UK retailers. Earlier this week, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said three teenage boys and a 20-year-old woman were arrested in connection with breaches affecting Marks and Spencer, Co-op and Harrods.
The suspects were detained on Thursday (10 July) morning across the West Midlands, London and Staffordshire.
Louis Vuitton has been approached for comment.
