Authentic names new Ted Baker licensing partners

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Authentic Brands Group has announced that it has established three foundational licensing partners for Ted Baker, securing the future of the brand in the US and Canada.

The new lineup includes the United Legwear and Apparel Co. (ULAC), BCI Brands and Peerless Clothing.

United Legwear and Apparel Co. will design and manufacture the Ted Baker branded men’s sportswear, golf and denim categories and be responsible for all wholesale and concession shops, as well as operating Tedbaker.us and Tedbaker.ca for the US and Canada.

Continuing in menswear, Authentic has also signed a long-term agreement with Peerless, which will design and manufacture Ted Baker’s tailored clothing, dress shirts and outerwear for the US and Canada.

Meanwhile, BCI Brands signs on as the brand’s strategic design and development partner for women’s sportswear, dresses and denim in the US and Canada.

Jarrod Weber, global president, Sports and Lifestyle at Authentic, said: “Ted Baker is an iconic high street brand known throughout the world for its classic British designs. “Establishing a new and vibrant core business in the US and Canada is an essential building block for the revitalisation of this brand. Today we announced strategic partnerships with three esteemed Authentic partners that will reinforce Ted Baker’s presence, bolster its credibility and forge enduring connections with premier retailers across the US and Canada.”

Authentic said Ted Baker’s new cohort of licensing partners will help to expand the brand’s presence across the US and Canada. Further details on Ted Baker’s global partner network are expected in the coming months.

The news comes as Ted Baker called in administrators for its UK business and March in a move which could potentially see all of its stores close in the next few weeks.

Authentic Brands Group (ABG) acquired Ted Baker in 2022 in a £210m deal. Following its acquisition, Ted Baker entered a brand licensing partnership with Dutch group AARC, which owned and operated Ted Baker’s retail stores and e-commerce platform in the UK and Europe, but this was abandoned in January 2024 due to a dispute.

Since then ABG has been seeking a partner to run the brands business in the UK and Europe.
