Co-op opens new branch in New Romney

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Co-op has opened its newest store to serve and support the community in the market town of New Romney, Kent

Located in Littlestone Road, New Romney, the 2,250 sq ft convenience store has created 16 local jobs and includes an in-store bakery, Costa Coffee Express machine, customer car parking, and a free ATM.

The store will open between 6am and 10pm daily, and include fresh produce; meal ideas; everyday essentials; food-to-go; Fairtrade products, flowers, chilled beers and wines; and ready meals, pizzas and, free-from, vegan and plant-based products.

A soft plastic recycle unit has also been made available in store to enable the community to recycle ‘soft plastics’ including: crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals and yogurt pots, biscuit wrappers, and pet food pouches.

The click and collect of groceries is also available for added ease and convenience through shop.coop.co.uk.

Gordon Hebdon, store manager of New Romney Co-op, said: “The whole team is enjoying welcoming the community into their new Co-op, we have had a great response, and it is a proud day to have launched Co-op’s newest store.

“Our aim is to operate at the heart of local life and we have worked to develop the range, choice and added services to create a compelling offer to serve our community and visitors to the area, conveniently.”
