Amazon to begin selling cars next year

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Online retail giant Amazon has announced that it is set to start selling cars online from next year.

Customers in the US will be able to shop for, equip and purchase a car online before scheduling a delivery to a local car dealership.

To begin with the scheme will be limited to Hyundai cars and Amazon expects it to begin in the latter part of 2024.

This announcement is the next step of a deal with Hyundai to expand its digital showroom which was announced two years ago.

As part of this agreement Amazon’s AI assistant Alexa will be rolled out in Hyundai cars from 2025 onwards.

Andy Jassy, Amazon CEO, said: “Our broad, strategic partnership should do just that, from changing the ease with which customers can buy vehicles online, to making it simple to use Alexa in Hyundai vehicles for entertainment, shopping, smart home adjustments, and calendar checks, to enabling Hyundai to transform their customer experiences and business operations by moving to AWS. We look forward to inventing together for many years.”
