JD opens flagship store at Ashley Centre

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

CBRE Investment Management has announced the opening of JD’s 4,453 sq ft regional flagship at the Ashley Centre, Epsom.

Located in a prime space on the ground level near the central square, the sportswear giant builds upon the retail and fashion line-up within the Ashley Centre and provides exclusive products and its full range of clothing, footwear, and accessories. This includes footwear and clothing from leading brands such as Nike, adidas, The North Face, and Puma.

Louisa Butters, head of retail asset management UK at CBRE Investment Management, said: “The unveiling of JD is reflective of our commitment to the refurbishment plans for the scheme and is a significant regional launch for the Ashley Centre. This new flagship store is just one of a number of new openings we have welcomed in the past six months, especially targeted to enhance the customer experience and is part of our ongoing strategy for the destination.”

CBRE Investment Management is currently completing a £5m refurbishment programme to revitalise the scheme in Epsom and the expansion of the retail offer, led by JD, is a key milestone for the project, due to be completed by the end of the year.

JD joins another recent entrant to the Ashley Centre, Gail’s Bakery, providing visitors with a wider choice of high-profile brand names within its retail offer alongside Deichmann, Monsoon and NEXT.

James Air, head of group acquisitions at JD, said: “JD is pleased to have opened a new store in the heart of The Ashley Centre. It was great to work with Duncan Kite and CBRE IM to make this happen and we are confident this will be a fantastic new store for the community.”
