Bird and Blend Tea Co. to open 15th store in Edinburgh

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Independent tea company, Bird and Blend Tea Co., will be opening its 15th retail store in Edinburgh tomorrow (15 August), the first of three to open before the end of the year, following the company’s launch on the high street 10 years ago.

Alongside its ecommerce business, retail stores are “at the heart” of the company, which will also host live free matcha tea demos, offer a tea matching service, run mixology masterclasses and events.

The new branch will create at least six new jobs that will be “an integral part of the imaginative and magical customer journey” offered in store.

The new store manager and trainee manager will head up the team, supported by four tea mixologist roles.

Mike Turner, co-founder and managing director of Bird and Blend Tea Co., said: “Customer experience is at the heart of everything we do. Alongside the fast growth of the digital side of our business, we’re proudly continuing to invest in local high streets too.

“We see our stores as not just retail spaces, but as community hubs where customers can come to make connections with one another and our team. For us, there will always be a place for magical in-person experiences and we’re delighted to be arriving in Edinburgh.”

Bird and Blend Tea Co. was founded by Krisi Smith and Mike Turner, who met at university. Beginning their story packing tea in their bedroom and attending markets, building the company from scratch.
