Mango to open 13 new UK stores this year

On this episode we're joined by Florian Clemens, Strategy and Proposition Director at Tesco Media, to unpack how retail media is evolving at speed — and what Tesco Media’s role looks like inside the wider Tesco ecosystem. We explore the “win-win-win” promise for shoppers, brands and retailers, the power of contextual relevance, and why Tesco calls its offering “video, reimagined.” Plus, we’ll look ahead to GenAI creativity, automation, and what brands should do now to prepare for retail media’s next phase.

Mango has announced an expansion across the south and centre of the UK, with 13 planned store openings over the span of 2023 in major cities such as Bristol, London, Manchester, Leeds and Brighton.

Among the “key” store openings is the Westfield Stratford City branch that opened today (26 May), which is credited as being one of the largest shopping centres in the country. The store, which has a selling space of 450m2, also “exclusively” stocks the Woman collection.

The retailer’s UK expansion will also arrive for the first time in Brighton, where it will open a 470m2 store in the Churchill Square shopping centre.

The brand’s announced expansion comes as it has already opened new stores in Solihull, Bristol and Leeds in the first few months of the new year.

In the second half of the year, the company is also planning to open new stores in locations such as Milton Keynes, Glasgow and London.

Daniel López, director of expansion and franchises at Mango, said: “The United Kingdom is one of the key markets for Mango’s international expansion. Our arrival this year in cities we have not been present in until now and in some of the largest shopping centres in the country will consolidate the Mango brand and allow us to strengthen our position internationally.”

Mango has been present in the United Kingdom since 1999. In 2021, the company opened a new flagship store in Oxford Street, London, and another three stores in Manchester, Edinburgh and Derby. It also opened nine corners with the John Lewis Partnership throughout the United Kingdom and four wholesale stores with Morleys Department Stores.
