Apple to cut corporate retail jobs

Apple to cut corporate retail jobs

On this episode of Talking Shop I’m joined by Alain Bejjani—former Group CEO of Middle East retail giant Majid Al Futtaim, and author of the definitive new book, NEXT: Leading Through the New Realities. Drawing on his childhood in war-torn Beirut, and his experience steering a $9.5bn dollar retail and lifestyle empire through a global pandemic, Alain brings an unmatched perspective on leadership under pressure. Today, we break down his crisis survival playbook for retailers operating in distress. We discuss why resilience must always outpace efficiency, the four assets a brand must protect at all costs, and how to turn macro-turmoil into a long-term direction that scales.

Apple is reportedly set to axe a “very small” number of roles within its corporate retail teams in a bid to streamline operations, Bloomberg has reported.

The news is said to come from people close to the company and it is understood that currently it is unclear how many roles would be impacted.

According to Bloomberg, the internal cuts to jobs are being considered as a way to improve operational efficiency rather than cut costs.

Meanwhile, additional reports state that scrapped roles will be in the team that handles building and upkeep for the tech giant’s retail stores, as well as some management roles.

Apple, which has managed to avoid axing positions until now, will allow all impacted employees to apply for other positions at the company until the end of the week or receive up to four months of severance pay.

Apple has not commented on the news, which would mark the first round of internal layoffs of full-time employees since the beginning of big tech cuts.
