Asda owners, the EG Group, are reportedly considering expanding its convenience store chain into the European market in an “international first”, according to The Times.

The Issa brothers, Mohsin and Zuber, are said to be “exploring” whether the supermarket giant’s convenience store chain, “Asda On the Move” could open across some of the EG Group’s 3,000-plus petrol forecourts.

The supermarket’s new owners are planning to open 200 convenience stores on EG’s UK forecourts by the end of next year as well as considering opening new supermarkets.

The owners previously backed out of a £750m deal to acquire the grocer’s forecourt business in October 2021, after the sharing of commercial information relating to the acquisition changed the financial position for the group.

Furthermore, in Asda’s existing supermarkets, the Issa brothers are also thought to be planning to introduce more food courts, additional clothing departments and more health and beauty brands.
