Aldi is set to hire 1,200 new employees by the end of the year as it pushes ahead with plans to open an average of one new store a week between now and Christmas.

The supermarket, which currently has more than 890 stores and employs around 35,000 people across the UK, has already created 2,800 new permanent jobs this year and plans to create more than 1,200 more, in addition to the thousands of temporary roles that were available during the peak of the pandemic.

The supermarket has announced it is opening new stores in towns and cities such as Sandhurst, Bristol and Edinburgh as well as many other locations around the UK, as it continues on its journey towards its target of 1,200 UK stores by 2025.

It estimates each new store opening creates, on average, will create 30 new jobs, boosting employment opportunities within the local area.

Aldi CEO Giles Hurley said: “I’ve been very proud of the tireless work my colleagues have put into feeding the nation. 

“To continue doing this and meet our goals of making Aldi accessible to even more shoppers, we will need thousands more amazing colleagues across the country.  I look forward to welcoming each and every one of them to the team.”

Earlier this month, Aldi announced it is extending its trial with Deliveroo into 11 new stores, including five more in London and launching in Greater Manchester and Cambridge for the first time.

The extension more than doubles the number of stores currently running the trial partnership after eight stores in Nottinghamshire introduced the Deliveroo service in May, with Camden launching in June.
