Health and beauty retailer Superdrug has revealed its new measures to protect its employees and customers amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Superdrug has also confirmed its stores will remain open following the government announcement to close all non-essential services.
In an email sent to customers, Superdrug’s CEO Peter Macnab said the company’s main priority is “always the health and wellbeing of our team and our customers and we are doing everything we can to provide the right service to everyone”.
He said: “Our teams are working hard to ensure that we can continue to make essential products, like baby milk, nappies, hand wash, sanitiser, general medicines, pharmacy prescriptions and OTC medicines, available.”
Superdrug also said it will not keep stores open if it does not have enough staff to help out and will be reviewing “the situation” on a store by store basis, and said it will clarify which stores will remain open on its website social channels.
Any Superdrug store which has remained open will be operating on reduced times from 10am to 5pm to ensure enough time for deep cleaning and stocking shelves.
Macnub added: “People rely on us for over 1 million healthcare products a week and it’s for these customers that we’ve stayed open. From today our focus will be on keeping open stores where we are necessary to support the local community. We won’t open if we don’t have enough people to do this safely.”
Also, the health and beauty retailer has also introduced perspex screens at checkouts and pharmacy counters to help prevent the spread of the virus as well as extra ‘card-only’ tills and two metre distance floor markers.
The company has also removed all testers and has restricted the number of customers per store at one time.
