Booker Group restructures retail leadership team

On this episode of Talking Shop I am joined by Zipline CEO and co-founder Melissa Wong. We discuss how Melissa’s 10 years’ of frontline experience informed her approach to building a SaaS company, the recurring operational frustrations that most head offices still underestimate, and why she believes technology should be designed with the store associate as the primary user. We also explore current trends in store execution and how retailers can bridge the gap between corporate strategy and the shop floor.

Wholesaler Booker Group has announced a series of changes to its retail senior leadership team, including the creation of a single sales division.

The group, which is owned by Tesco and operates Budgens, Premier, Londis and Family Shopper, will combine its existing teams into one dedicated retail sales unit.

Martyn Parkinson, who previously served as sales director for Premier and Family Shopper, will lead the new department.

Meanwhile, Stewart Fenn has been appointed as head of retail proposition. He will be responsible for the development of the customer proposition across all symbol brands. Fenn will also take responsibility for the forecourt business, including regional and national accounts.

Fenn previously served as sales and brand director for Londis and Budgens.

These changes follow a period of transition for the wholesaler as it seeks to streamline its support for independent businesses.

According to Booker, the restructure will improve the ability of the team to provide independent retailers with appropriate symbol group services.

Colm Johnson, managing director of Booker, said: “Both Martyn and Stewart have a wealth of experience across Booker and the convenience landscape. These changes will allow us to best support independent retailers across local communities, ensuring they are well set up for success now and in the future.”
